Are there
any risks?
In our experience, risk are very
rare. Obviously as with any medical intervention that has an effect,
there's a chance that things can go wrong or the response to the
treatment is not that that was expected or wanted.
To get the maximum contraction of proteins, and thus the best skin
tightening result, the heat energy put into the skin needs to be as
high as possible. As such, it is possible to burn the skin. Although
this was once reported as common with Thermage, now that no
anaesthetic is used and now that the tip has a cooling function, skin
burns a very uncommon and we have not seen one in our experience.
By heating the tissue under the skin, it is possible to reduce the fat
pad that lies directly beneath the skin. However, by knowing this, a
skilled operator can direct the treatment and use this function to
smooth out any fatty lumps that might detract from a good cosmetic
result. This is particularly useful in the treatment of jowls or early
double chins.
Is there any downtime?
The simple answer is no. As Thermage treats the proteins in and under
the skin, the in itself is left living and healthy. You will be able
to wear makeup immediately after the treatment. There will be no scars
or other blemishes to suggest you have had anything done.
